The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) is Australia’s peak body for supporting health and medical research, for developing health advice for the Australian Community, health professionals and Governments and for providing advice on ethical behaviour in healthcare and in the conduct of health and medical research.

In January 2009, the NHMRC and Palamedia Ltd signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) to work together on a mutually beneficial project to raise awareness of NHMRC-funded Australian medical and health research outcomes both nationally and internationally.

The result is Working to Build a Healthy Australia, produced by Palamedia as an official publication of the NHMRC. The publication, launched in August 2009 at the new NHMRC building in Canberra, showcases peer-reviewed NHMRC-funded research focusing on six main research categories aligned with the national health priority areas nominated by the NHMRC and the Australian Government.

Working to Build a Healthy Australia provides a rare and compelling insight into where Australia’s medical research funding is going and the key issues it must address, and profiles some of the most dynamic health and medical scientists our country has ever produced.
